.

For the eighth year running, Malaysia's top menswer tailor, Lord's Tailor, sponsored the top Malay actors in the annual Anugerah Bintang Popular or Most Popular Artists Awards. Presented by Berita Harian, Anugerah Bintang Popular is Malaysia's most important, prestigious and authoritative awards night and equivalent to the Oscars.

These pictures, taken by me of course using my stylo-mylo Leica (no less) show the first steps upon arrival of the stars as they are groomed, combed and made-up!

The following is devoted to images of Shaarnaz who was the life and party of the photo session! This handsome actor was easy going, amiable, fun and funny! And he could pose like a pro! Hamming it up for my camera, Shaarnaz showed his versatility and talent in making love to my Leica!

Now into its 24th year, Anugerah Bintang Popular is also a trendsetter as all the leading Malay actors, actresses, singers, comedians, entertainers, directors, producers and everyone that plays a leading role in the music recording and film industries.

The inaugural awards took place on 1 December 1987 at Dewan Bunga Raya in Putra World Trade Centre with only 7 categories and did not have what is now the most coveted award---Anugerah Bintang Paling Popular or the Most Popular Star which could be male or female. This award was only established in 1990 when singer Aishah made history by being the first winner.

Today there are 18 categories, from the usual Most Popular Film Actress, Male Singer, Female Singer, Female TV Host, Male Radio Host to Male Comedy Artiste to Most Popular Nasyid Singer.

Surprisingly, Zizan aka Raja Lawak the Comedy King was more restraint and composed than Shaarnaz

As Lord's Tailor is Malaysia's finest tailor for men, many actors had come to have their suits, jackets, tuxedos and vest made here. Over time, master tailor and owner of Lord's Tailor Robert Loh decided to sponsor the most up and coming as well as established stars. His first attempt resulted in his sponsored suit winning Best Dressed and since then many Best Dressed Actors and Best Dressed Men have won the title in Lord's Tailor suits.

This year, Robert Loh, his wife Lee Lee and son Kenny Loh who continue to run the phenomenally successful menswear business, decided on the theme Modern Classics 1950 but with a twist.

"That era has spiffy and beautifully cut coats and pants but they tended to be high waisted and baggy which is a no-no today unless you are strictly into the retro look," explains Lee Lee Loh. "I thought Lord's Tailor would give the clothes a contemporary twist and modified some details so the suits could be worn today and look cool while retaining a faint air of yesterday."

The results are so sleek and stylish any rockstars would swop their guitars for these threads. Indeed some outfits are so retro-glam Al Capone and his Chicago gang would break into Bangsar Shopping Centre to pilfer them!

Look at these guys. Even with machine guns they look menacing, mean and macho!

Kudos to Lord's Tailor for dressing up the winner once again!
