For the first time in Malaysian pageant history, a beauty contest for young men and women was organised by Adelicious strictly for those students! So this is a sort of competition for brains as it is a certainty anyone who made it into a Malaysian campus must have some semblance of brains.

You don't need to be a member of MENSA or rocket scientist to enroll into a Malaysian college or university but you must have the basic qualifications so for once, no one can accuse the winners of being dumb blondes or brainless hunks!

I was one of 5 judges as I am a beauty with brains and graduated from Universiti Malaya with flying colours and First Class honours so of course I was the most qualified judge! The other judges were Camilla, Mrs Malaysia International World 2010, Rina Neoh executive director of Mercatus Capital, Wilson Tan the top Malaysian male supermodel and singer Chris Lay.

Over 280 campus occupants applied and 66 were selected for the audition and 33 made it for the finals held at KL Live, a huge concert hall in the heart of the Golden Triangle. Around 500 guests attended the event to cheer for their favourites with some hanging banners proclaiming their candidates.

A lion dance opened the event which was very auspicious and true enough, everything flowed smoothly and nothing went amiss! I am a firm believer in lion dances at opening ceremonies as the good chi they generate will ensure a successful event.

Of course there were the obligatory day wear, sports wear, formal and definitely the highlight---swimwear where the ladies paraded in bikinis and the men near naked in swim trunks! All the oohs and aaahs came from both male and female guests!

I was particularly impressed by producer Adrian Winson who came up with the idea of a picture screened on stage which the top finalists had to comment. Instead of the usual, deadly boring questions like "Why did you take part in this contest" or "Do you expect to win and if so, why?" or "How do you plan to promote world peace?", Adrian Winson's stunningly creative Q & A took the form of quick thinking on the part of the contestants to say something sharp, clever and witty. Each of the 10 finalists had to pick a number and an image appeared on the screen on the stage.

"There were no correct or wrong answers as all the finalists had to do was comment on what was shown on the screen," explains Adrian Winson. Well, obviously the objects shown were not images of houses, poodles or nasi lemak. Instead each of the Top 5 guys and Top 5 girls had to remark on a condom, banana, bra, coffin, baby, pistol, papaya, sunrise/sunset, toilet brush and Adelicious logo (but of course since they are the producer!)

Some drew laughter by their amusing remarks while one or two fell flat but everyone in the audience was pretty tickled and astounded by this new-fangled method. I bet my bottom dollar this will take the Malaysian pageant scene by storm! From now onwards, most if not all beauty contests will follow and copy Adrian Winson's format! And why not, this is such a clever and amusing concept and finalists need only say what is on their mind.

The winners were;
Mr Malaysia Campus 2011/12; Johhny Chong
1st runner-up; Ryan Theam
2nd runner-up Damon Tan

Miss Malaysia Campus 2011/12; Jocelyn Leong
1st runner-up; Caryn Tan
2nd runner-up; Cindy Li Ann

Miss and Mr Best Body; Lydia and Darren

Miss and Mr Popular; Charlene and Matthew

Miss and Mr Talent; Crystal and Johhny

Miss and Mr Photogenic; Camelia and Frederick

Miss Cover Princess and Mr Cover Prince; Caryn Tan and Johnny Chong

Most Promising Star; Chong You Leong

I awarded Chong You Leong the Most Promising Star and when the emcee asked who deserved to win, many shouted "Kee Hua Chee la!" Hello, this is an insult OK as I am an ESTABLISHED star and a mega star at that!

Adrian Winson, owner of Adelicious Entertainment is the best person to run the contest as this 27 year old is also a handsome hunk and has won a slew of titles, so many that pageant promoters have asked him to stop taking part to give others a chance to win! So now he has gone to the other side of the fence, akin to being a photographer behind the camera instead of model in front of the lenses!

Adrian Winson is the current Mr Southeast Asia 2011, Southeast Asia Cover Prince 2011, Mr Southeast Asia Best Catwalk Model 2011, Mr Malaysia Southeast Asia 2010, Watson U Award 2010 Fit Figure 1st runner-up, Manhunt Malaysia 2010 1st runner-up and Hottest Hunk Malaysia 2010 winner.
