'BEAUTIFUL MIND'---ASIA'S FIRST ART STORAGE FACILITY IN HONG KONG

KEE@FSWMAG.COM
IS MALAYSIA READY FOR THIS KIND OF FACILITY? OR ARE THERE TOO FEW COLLECTORS TO MERIT SUCH AN ARTS WAREHOUSE?

I have plenty of rich friends who collect works of art but few do so on a monumental scale like David Khalili. They display their collections in their homes and surplus works are stored and locked in storerooms or spare bedrooms!

Sad to say, there are more Singaporean art collectors so perhaps a Malaysian or Vinci Chang, owner of Beautiful Mind, can build a storage facility in Iskandar or Johore Baru! Johore is a quickie drive from Singapore and art lovers can safely store their treasures in Johore with easy, instant access! Land scarce Singapore and Hong Kong may think 10,000 sq ft is huge but most of my friends live in houses this size and having a built-up area of 10,000 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft is expected of Malaysian millionaires since we are blessed with ample land!

Remember it is me who suggests this brilliant idea!

Beautiful Mind sounds like a plastic surgery or medical centre or psychotic hospital but it is an art storage and restoration centre!
WORLD-CLASS FINE ART STORAGE AND RESTORATION SERVICES FACILITY
OPENS IN HONG KONG
- THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN ASIA -

As befits the centre of art business in Asia and one of the top three art auction centres in the world, Hong Kong now boasts a world-class fine art storage and restoration services facility designed to cater to the rapidly increasing number of knowledgeable and discerning collectors in Asia.

Beautiful Mind is the brainchild of Vinci Chang, a well-respected figure in the international art world with over 15 years’ experience in the fine art auction business. Vinci joined Christie’s in Taipei in 1997 and swiftly rose to become Specialist in the Chinese 20th Century Art department. In 2006 she relocated to Hong Kong as Vice President and Head of Sales for the Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art department. In this role, Vinci was at the forefront of creating the dynamic Asian contemporary art market and became one of the most important taste makers in the field.

In response to the tremendous need and growing demand for top-flight, comprehensive art
services in Asia, Vinci has created the concept of Beautiful Mind - an impressive, state-ofthe-
art, 10,000-square-foot facility located in North Point, Hong Kong. It comprises three
main components: a professional art restoration studio, advanced art storage spaces, and
an education space with an art library where lectures and exhibitions aimed at students and
members of the public will be held.

A total of 28 art storage rooms are available for individual clients. Each room is specifically
designed for humidity and temperature control and individually adjusted and monitored for
all types of artworks (for example, a more stringent humidity control is required for works on
paper than for oil paintings). A highly sophisticated security system also ensures maximum
security equivalent to that of a safe in a bank or museum. Clients may take pieces out for
private viewing in a viewing room manned by art handlers with museum experience. This is
the first centre in Asia with such meticulous, advanced storage facilities for fine art.

On hand at Beautiful Mind are two inhouse
professional restorers for the
Conservation and Restoration of art
works in different media. Both are
highly qualified with a wealth of
experience in museums, historical sites
and private collections. Pui-Yu Chen
furthered her studies at the École des
Beaux-arts in Versailles, France and
practised oil paintings conservation
and restoration in Paris before
returning to Asia where she catered to
high-level clients including those referred by international auction houses. Ting-fu Fan, a
specialist in preventive conservation of Asian paintings on silk and paper, worked at the
National Palace Museum in Taiwan and then at the British Museum before establishing a
Art Restoration Studio conservation studio providing a service to museums and individuals.

In addition, Beautiful Mind plans to hold regular lectures and seminars on topics related to art and culture in the Education Space, to encourage art education and engage art lovers and the public. An art consulting and valuation service will be provided. The library will boast a specially commissioned fish tank designed by award-winning Aquascape designer Cliff Hui.

Until now, such high-standard art storage and art restoration facilities have simply not been available to collectors in Hong Kong. Beautiful Mind thus provides a platform offering consolidated services on both fronts, the first of its kind in Asia. Beautiful Mind also has the mission to promote information on art restoration, still a relatively new concept in Hong Kong. The aim will be to arouse awareness of the importance of keeping art works in a proper environment. In addition, in an emergency, such as when an art work has been damaged, Beautiful Mind can provide immediate professional advice and assistance.
