No one can outbling Kee Hua Chee!

An afternoon soiree was held at Lounge on the Park to toast Amee's recent success as the only Malaysian and Southeast Asian jeweller to be invited to the launch of the 2013 yearbook at the Dorchester hotel in London.

No other Malaysian or Malaysian company received the honour.

Amee Philips' first store at Lot 10 will soon cease operations sometime in July and her sparkling new store at Mandarin Oriental will be her flagship store in Kuala Lumpur. Her Penang flagship store is at 109 Jalan Kelawei in George Town.

Penang-born Amee Tan is married to Irishman Andrew Philips and have 4 children. Amee is MD while Andrew is CEO and son Richard is Business Development Manager.

"As a child I used to stare at the clouds and imagine all sorts of real and mythical creatures. Some clouds looked like dragons, some looked like cows, lambs, rabbits etc but I always seemed to be able to see phoenixes all the times!" explained the charming and indefatigable Amee who looked ravishing in black adorned with a spectacular RM 170,000 phoenix brooch pinned at her cleavage.

Phoenix is the symbol of female power so it stands to reason women of substance should wear phoenix jewellery. The female phoenix is the female counterpart of the masculine dragon and together they form the celebrated yin-yang icon that signifies the balance of opposing forces that hold the universe in balance!

Just as the Chinese Emperor, the Son of Heaven, sat on the Dragon Throne, his Empress sat on the Phoenix Throne and wore a crown shaped like a phoenix.

Even today, Chinese couples tying the nuptial knot always display the Dragon & Phoenix emblem with pair chasing the Flaming Pearl of Immortality.

However, Amee Philips' press release issued by Salina & Associates has confused the Chinese phoenix with the western/European phoenix.

The European phoenix dies every 500 years and when the end is near, it builds a nest and waits for the rising sun to burn the nest and itself into ashes. However, at the bottom will be an egg which slowly cracks open and new, young, fresh and reborn phoenix is reborn!

The Chinese phoenix is immortal and does not die. Similarly the Europeans treat their dragons as evil beasts and Christians are familiar with the tale of St George killing the dragon and saving the maiden in distress. In Chinese culture, no sane Chinese dreams of killing the dragon which is the symbol of majesty, power and auspiciousness and is lord of the sky and water!
