“This collection was inspired by the clean graphics and colour combinations of board
games. I have worked with leather inlay techniques and used a combination of French
goatskin, calf, shagreen and butter soft skins. I also played with the art of tassel making for
a modern take on last season’s 18th Century tassel”

I love the over-sized tassels and backgammon bags since I am the champion backgammon player!

The Anya Hindmarch AW13 collection was inspired by the influences of play, the graphic nature of
board games and the cascades of many shades of one colour. Key families include; the Albion, a group
of clean, structured styles in which the leather is sealed without the need for stitching giving a graphic,
modern line, the Bathurst, in both solid and dual colours completed with cross body contrast straps,
and the Duke and Duchess, elegant evening clutches with contrasting coloured shagreen inlays
replicating backgammon boards and domino pieces.

A colour palette of medium grey, burgundy, red, dark holly and navy is accentuated by pops of white, sorbet pink, light blue, gold and pewter. Anya’s trademark tassels have been reworked in oversized forms to accessorise her bags with a cascade of colour.

To showcase the collection Anya Hindmarch created a domino show using a large graphic set covered
with 50,000 coloured dominoes that complemented Hindmarch’s seasonal colour palette. After a
countdown on a huge screen above the set, the dominoes descended down a flight of stairs into the set
to start the show. The domino runs weaved across the set circling around reveals of the designer’s
key Aw13 pieces which rose up through the dominoes. Huge pyramids constructed of black dominoes
crumbled to reveal a shower of coloured dominoes before opening to reveal bags.

For the show’s finale, two giant cylindrical towers of coloured dominoes cascaded to reveal revolving drums showcasing graphic evening clutches and topped with the designer’s key style the Bathurst, adorned in
the season’s oversized tassels.

Anya collaborated with set designer Rachel Thomas and World Champion domino expert Robin Weijers,
known as Mr Domino, to create the show concept. Robin’s team of 8 domino builders spent
5 days covering the set with 50,000 dominoes by hand, to create the domino runs and tricks.
The intricate and time consuming set up meant that there could be no rehearsal,
just one chance to get it right!

Guests were entertained pre show with a live feed from the designer’s Anyagram generator revealing
amusing Anyagrams of guest’s names. Boxes of Anyagrams with beaded bracelets inside were on each
guest’s seat. Anyone can fashion a new identity for themselves by logging on at www.anyagrams.com
