THE DESTINATION ZERMATT-MATTERHORN
In summer, the destination offers more than 400 km of marked hiking trails, a lake for bathing at 2,232 m and mountain-bike trails for every level of difficulty. Mountain climbers can choose among 38 4,000-meter peaks for challenging tours.

Summer skiing also figures prominently, because one can ski and snowboard here throughout the year. As the highest and largest year-round ski area in the Alps, the destination offers an absolute snow guarantee. In winter, 360 km of piste attract skiers of every level on both the Swiss and Italian side of the Matterhorn. Winter hikers, snowshoe wanderers and gourmets enjoy the glistening snow surroundings.

HOTEL AND HOLIDAY APARTMENT NEWS
Regular guests have known this for some time – the ratings shine daylight on it: Where are the best hotels and where can I enjoy the best service? The rankings in TripAdvisor and other Internet platforms regularly show that many Zermatt accommodations are the best. One reason for this is that the hotel and holiday flat owners continuously invest in their properties and offer guests new services.

NEW LUXURY CHALET LA VUE WITH HOTEL SERVICE
From summer 2014: luxury apartments with full hotel service in a modern alpine style. Six apartment units between 90 m2 and 300 m2 with room for up to ten people. An in-house spa invites guests to rest and relax. The interior furnishings are oriented to the world of the black-nose sheep of Ruedi Julen, the host at the Hotel Europe.

CHALET HIGH SEVEN WITH LUXURY PENTHOUSE
Zermatt has a new luxury chalet since the 2013-2014 winter: The Chalet High Seven above the Sunnegga base station. The High Seven Penthouse (235 m2) is located in the top floor and attic of the chalet with luxury furnishings and a view of the Matterhorn. The penthouse has room for eight people. Carefully selected professional staff is available on request. Relax in the in-suite wellness area with its oversized bathtub and bio sauna.

TWO NEW SKI-IN/SKI-OUT CHALETS
Ari Resort is expanding its Zermatt offering by two chalets named Binna and Banja.
From December 2014, new apartments are available there – for eight to ten guests each. With ski-in/ski-out or direct access to the ski piste right at the front door. View of the Matterhorn. The surroundings are luxurious, elegant and rustic.

THE NEW “LEGENDÄR” HOLIDAY HOUSE
The Naturfreundehaus Zermatt next to the Gornergrat Bahn stood empty for a long time. Now the house is called “legendär.” The opening is on 20 December 2014. There are 17 apartments, which can be booked now through Reka. Guests enjoy their own stop on the Gornergrat Bahn right at the front door along with a small indoor swimming pool.

GASTRONOMY NEWS
Zermatt is the culinary stronghold of the Alps and offers real enjoyment – not only for the eyes but also for the palate. 21 restaurants in the village and in the mountains have collected a total of 293 GaultMillau points. The Swiss Michelin Guide has also awarded one star to three Zermatt restaurants. A gourmet village par excellence.

PARKHOTEL BEAU SITE WITH A SMALL DINNER MENU
The Parkhotel Beau Site has a new culinary offering since 1 June 2014. Guests and locals can order delicacies from the new evening menu in the Beau Site Lounge and Bar – daily from 5:30 pm to 10 pm. Gourmets can look forward to a small taste treat while watching the sun set on the Matterhorn.

VALAIS WEEKS IN THE GLACIER EXPRESS
Culinary Valais Weeks are taking place in the Glacier Express from 1 September to 26 October 2014. For eight weeks, typical Valais cuisine and cellar specialties AOC will be served and poured. Rail travellers will enjoy Valais delicacies between Zermatt and St. Moritz.

RESTAURANT HERMETJE: WILD HERB CUISINE AND HOUSE WINE
The Restaurant Hermetje will be run by the Leo Imesch family beginning this summer 2014. Guests and hikers can enjoy daily specialties on the sunny terrace in an idyllic and quiet setting. Specialty: Wild herb cuisine and house wine from its own production. The Hermetje is just 30 minutes by foot from the Furri cable car station.

NEW FONDUE STÜBLI IN ZERMATT
The Hotel Cervo will open its new Fondue Stübli “Ferdinand” in December 2014. This bistro is laid in a comfortable and simple form and has room for 40 persons. They serve raclette at your table, dried meat dishes and fondue as well as a selection of wines only from Valais.

ZERMATT: GOURMET HOTSPOT IN WINTER AS WELL
For years, famous chefs de cuisine have flown into Zermatt as winter migrants to spoil our guests. This is also so in the 2014-2015 winter. Ivo Adam from the Ristorante Seven in Ascona will perform his magic for guests in the Backstage Hotel & Vernissage for the third winter. In the Restaurant Dolce Vita Roland Kilian from Restaurant Rebstock in Tschugg (BE) will cook in his third winter as well. And in the Mont Cervin Palace (Ristorante Le Capri, 1 star Guide Michelin), the team of the Michelin star chef Andrea Migliaccio from the Hotel Capri Palace on Capri near Naples will bring Mediterranean flair to Zermatt.

FAMILIES
The destination Zermatt–Matterhorn was awarded the “Families Welcome” seal of quality in 2013. This seal is given to holiday destinations, which specifically orient their offerings to children and families. The young, black-nosed sheep Wolli is the mascot at Zermatt-Matterhorn. Wolli makes sure that children can discover the destination through games and fun – with the Wolli Summer Fun program.

BATHING PASS FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
No other place in Switzerland has more hours of sunshine than Zermatt. Thanks to its dry, sunny climate, the destination is ideal for alpine bathing holidays. And the place to go is Sunnegga in the Leisee mountain lake (2,232 m). Since the lake is not deep, the water temperature is pleasant despite the altitude. The mild bathing temperatures, the playground and the fireplace guarantee fun for the entire family.

VISIT TO SHEEP PASTURE
In summer, guests can visit the 300 black-nose sheep of the Julen family on the meadow above the Stafelalp and feed them their “Gläck” (bread-salt mixture). Wander from Schwarzsee with the shepherd to the sheep and learn a lot about the animals. A simple snack with the sheep at a spectacular site directly under the north wall of the Matterhorn. Reserve in advance. Lunch can also be booked. Recommended for those who walk well.

SUMMER CAMP FOR CHILDREN
“Awesome Summer Camp Zermatt” is a summer attraction for children. Outdoor sports are a main part of the program. Children between 7 and 17 may take part in camp by the week or day from 8 June to 13 September 2014. Experienced camp counselors take care of the children. The program is mainly in English, but staff members also speak German, French and Spanish.

SUNNEGGA PLAYGROUND: NEW PICNIC PAVILION
The Sunnegga Family Paradise offers its young and old guests an eventful playground with fireplace and bathing lake at 2,232 m. After playing, all guests can use the new picnic pavilion directly next to the fireplace. There is nothing to stop a family Alpine excursion now.

SHEEPFOLD VISIT
In winter, 300 black-nose sheep live in the sheepfold of the Julen family. It is the largest black-nose breeding program in the world. In the winter months, the cuddly woolen animals welcome visitors once a week – always on Wednesdays. With refreshments in the middle of the sheep herd, Paul or Paul-Marc Julen talk about the special nature of these animals and the traditional mountain farming. This can be reserved in advance. The visit can also be booked with dinner.

The destination Zermatt-Matterhorn is never on holiday. New programs and events are constantly being developed to fulfill the needs of the guests. Infrastructure and installations are continuously being upgraded to guarantee a carefree and relaxed stay.

JUBILEE EXPRESS FROM ANDERMATT TO ZERMATT/GORNERGRAT
As part of the 100-year existence of the Brig-Gletsch rail line, an exclusive Jubilee Train will travel daily from Andermatt to Zermatt with a connection to Gornergrat from 1 to 17 August 2014. The Jubilee trip can also be booked in the other direction with an optional trip to Gornergrat.

QUALITY CARD FOR HOLIDAY APARTMENT GUESTS
The Zermatt Apartment Verein (ZAV) has created the Quality Card. Guests of ZAV members can benefit from the new guest card starting in summer 2014. The Quality Card basic program includes discounts in sports stores, reduced admission tickets for the museum and special terms for a culinary package. The basic program is expanded with seasonal offerings and packages during the summer and winter season.

MONTE ROSA HUT: NEW HUT WARDEN
After 15 years, the Monte Rosa Hut (2,883 m) is changing its director. Beginning 1 January 2015, Peter Rubin from Baltschieder (VS) will take over the famous high-technology hut with its 120 beds. The hut is in a high-Alpine setting. To reach it, one must traverse the Gorner Glacier. This tour is considered glacier trekking and should only be undertaken with a mountain guide, rope and crampons.

ZERMATT FOR BIKER
Over meadows and through the woods, on gravel and dirt, past lakes in an Alpine setting. Zermatt is the insider’s tip for all mountain and endurance bikers, who know what it means to experience the mountains and endless trails. The destination has accommodations equipped for mountain bikers – with the right infrastructure. The bike school helps with technique and offers freeride and gourmet tours. On-site bike rentals with equipment possible.

CINEMA LOUNGE AT MATTERHORN GLACIER PARADISE
The highest viewing platform in the Alps (3,883 m) offers an impressive view of 38 4,000-meter peaks. What happens when the view is not there? In a side tunnel of the gallery, the Cinema Lounge will be installed from summer 2014. Here fascinating and exciting scenes about flora and fauna, Alpinism and the mountain world of the high Alps will be shown. Visitors will enjoy films in the comfort of free-hanging cocoons.

HIGHEST AERIAL TRAMWAY IN EUROPE: CHANGING CABLES
From 27 October to 21 November 2014, both cables of the aerial tramway from Trockener Steg to Matterhorn glacier paradise will be replaced. A special vehicle will transport the new cable to Trockener Steg starting mid-August 2014. From there, the old cable will be used to pull the new one into place. Technical information about the lower cable: length: 3,950 m, weight: 25,280 kg, diameter: 42 mm. The upper cable is shorter (3,850 m) but heavier ( 26,257 kg).

IGLOO VILLAGE: REFRESHING ROMANCE
A romantic igloo experience awaits visitors below Rotenboden (2,815 m) in winter. Late night fondue in the igloo can now also be moved to the new Kota (small wood hut with chimney), where a cozy, warm atmosphere is found. New: In winter, daily tours are offered of the snow chambers of the hotel facility: 100 meter hallways, 25 igloos, 11 rooms, 1 large ice bar and impressive ice sculptures.

HÖRNLI HUT CLOSED FOR SUMMER 2014
The starting point for most mountain climbers making an ascent of the Matterhorn is the Hörnli Hut (3,260 m). The hut will be closed during the summer of 2014 for conversion and renovation work. The hiking trail to the hut will remain open and passable. The starting point for climbing the Matterhorn for now is Schwarzsee (2,583 m). The reopening of the Hörnli Hut is planned for July 2015.

EVENTS
An extensive network of hiking trails, pristine snow slopes, international award-winning chefs, an efficient developed infrastructure, 35,000 beds – and all of this in front of a breathtaking mountain setting. These are just some of the reasons why Zermatt-Matterhorn offers ideal conditions for every type of event throughout the year.

RUNNING CLINICS BY STOKED WITH CHLOË LANTHIER
Running Clinics is a two-day program for cross-country recreational runners, who would like to improve their condition. The participants learn how to improve their endurance and running technique. Injury prevention and nutrition are also topics. The Canadian ultra-distance elite athlete Chloë Lanthier is also there. The program takes place on two weekends: 14 to 15 June 2014 and 2 to 3 August 2014.

SWISS ORIENTEERING WEEK
Orienteering athletes will meet in Zermatt for Swiss Orienteering Week 2014 from 19 to 26 July 2014. Over 3,000 runners from 25 countries are expected. Various competition categories and different degrees of difficulty, also for families and teams. Registration until 31 May 2014.

WORLD’S HIGHEST SCHWINGFEST
The highest Schwingfest or Swiss wrestling tournament takes place at 2,500 m near Gornergrat from 12 to 14 September 2014. 50 wrestlers compete for the title in an arena surrounded by 29 4,000-meter peaks. Three-time king of the Schwinger Jörg Abderhalden is the patron of the event. On 14 September, show wrestling will take place with guest wrestlers from South Korea and Switzerland. The South Koreans will present their version of wrestling called “Ssireum.”

BIKE RACE: PERSKINDOL SWISS EPIC
The Perskindol Swiss Epic is a six-day mountainbike stage race. From 15 to 20 September 2014, teams of two riders will cycle through Canton Valais from Verbier via Leukerbad and Grächen to Zermatt. The number of starters is limited to 300. The route is a real challenge for professionals and advanced amateurs: 400 km and 15,000 meters of altitude to overcome. Registration has opened.

GOLF: “BIG SHOT” AT THE MATTERHORN EAGLE CUP
The Matterhorn Eagle Cup takes places at almost 3,000 m.a.s.l. before an Alpine backdrop. Play is on Saturday, 26 July 2014 on a 9-hole Scottish style links course. New this year is the Swiss Championships for Amateurs in distance driving: the Big Shot. Big Shot dates: 25 July on the Bahnhofplatz, driving against a screen. 26 July at Riffelberg (2,582 m), driving towards the Matterhorn.

2015 JUBILEE YEAR: 150 YEARS SINCE THE FIRST ASCENT
In 2015, Zermatt will celebrate the Matterhorn throughout the year. The destination will be marked on the 150th anniversary of the British Edward Whymper’s first ascent on 14 July.
Celebrations and activities will take place all year long.

OPENING OF THE REDESIGNED HÖRNLI HUT
The Hörnli Hut will reopen at the beginning of July 2015 just in time to mark the anniversary of the first ascent of the Matterhorn. The Hörnli Hut (3,260 m) is the starting point for a Matterhorn climb via the Hörnli-Grat. The hut will meet the demands of a modern high-Alpine building in terms of energy usage, functionality and water management.

ZERMATT OPEN AIR THEATER
The Open Air Theater puts on performances about the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865 in the center of Zermatt. Amateur actors and professionals show the drama of victory and death on the mountain of mountains. Around 35 performances of this historic piece take place before the backdrop of the Matterhorn from the end of June to the end of August. Seating for 800, attractive packages. Advanced sales beginning in summer 2014.
